Jehoshaphat’s Prayer
Synopsis 2Chron 19:11-20:11 4/3/2020
The Moabites and the Ammonites combined forces to attack Jerusalem. As they approached, King Jehoshaphat received word of their plans.
And so, the king ordered fasting and prayer throughout the land. Accordingly, all of the people of Judah prayed and fasted. Then, Jehoshaphat held a solemn assembly and prayed before the Lord to intervene against the invading forces.
Jehoshaphat’s Prayer
In his prayer, King Jehoshaphat appealed to the Lord for rescue. Specifically, he remembered how God and the patriarch Abraham were friends. What’s more, he called to remembrance how God had given the land to the Israelites. And he pointed out how the Israelites had been faithful to build a temple for the glory of the Lord in Jerusalem.
It was on this basis that asked for protection and victory over the adversaries.
Assured Prayer
The scriptures matter. Of course, one of the reasons they are so important is their impact on my perspective. When I identify with God’s plan in history, then I draw closer to His way of thinking – His world view.
And when I adopt this perspective, then I am automatically closer to agreeing with his purpose for this particular moment in time.
This then, is how I am to pray.
“This is how you are to pray…” Matt 6:9
