Unclean

How someone becomes unclean and what to do to remove uncleanness.

The problem with being unclean has to do with living in proximity to the God of all creation. God cannot be party to sin. It follows that the Israelites must keep themselves from being contaminated by handling unclean things.

For me to call you unclean is a serious claim – a judgement about your fitness to be a part of the community.

For me to declare myself unclean and work to become clean again is a service to the community that prevents disease and invites God’s blessing.

So the question is: “Is it time to take a bath?”

Jesus said to him, “Whoever has bathed has no need except to have his feet washed, for he is clean all over; so you are clean, but not all.” John 13:10
