Synopsis     2Maccabees 10:31-11:10     4/21/2021

After Maccabeus defeated his army, Timothy fled to Gazara. But Judas Maccabeus followed him there. And the Jewish army besieged the walled city. Eventually, Maccabeus’ forces defeated the city. Upon discovering Timothy hiding in a cistern, they killed him.

King Antiochus had made Lysias governor of the southern part of his empire. So Lysias was furious at Timothy’s defeat. And so, he built an enormous army of more than eighty thousand soldiers along with calvary and elephants.

Lysias invaded Judea. So, after crying out to God for help at the temple, Judas Maccabeus set out to keep Lysias’ forces away from Jerusalem. As he exited Jerusalem, the soldiers saw a horseman clothed in white with golden weapons. As a result, God filled the soldiers with the enormous courage necessary to engage Lysias’ grand army.

Maccabeus’ Angelic Help

God sent an angel to Judas Maccabeus as a result of his prayer. He was willing to engage with Lysias as a matter of duty. But when Maccabeus saw the angel, he knew victory would surely follow.

Angelic Help

If I was really sure that God had sent an angel ahead of me, nothing would be impossible.

Nothing is impossible with God.

“Do you think that I cannot call upon my Father and he will not provide me at this moment with more than twelve legions of angels?” Matt 26:53
